The DIR UVP Sprint — a Mediathink product
Your buyers don’t get it. Fix that first.
When sales stall in ‘so what?’, when leadership tells three versions of the company story, when pricing pressure keeps showing up — that’s rarely a sales problem. It’s a positioning problem.
The DIR UVP Sprint is Mediathink’s productized answer: one day in a room with your leadership team, a structured working sequence, and one tested value proposition your leadership aligns on and can use consistently — at one fixed price. It has its own site, its own method documents, and a Fit Check that takes minutes and requires no sales call.
It’s best suited to established companies whose offer is strong but whose buyers, sales team, or leadership describe it three different ways.
What a unique value proposition is
A unique value proposition says why a specific kind of customer should choose you over every alternative, including doing nothing, and what proof backs that claim. It is not a tagline. In the Sprint it becomes the standard that later copy, sales conversations, and collateral are held to.
Signs you need one
- Buyers don’t quickly grasp why you matter.
- Close rates are inconsistent and hard to explain.
- Sales, marketing, and leadership tell different stories about the company.
- Pricing pressure keeps coming up.
How the day works
The Sprint is built for small to midsized B2B companies. It starts with a Fit Check and an input review, where you share your current homepage or pitch, competitors, and customer examples. The working session itself runs about five hours, with leadership making decisions on the record:
- 0:00–0:15. Decision rules and the definition of done.
- 0:15–2:15. The customer’s language, your offer hierarchy, the alternatives customers choose instead, and the boundaries of your ideal customer.
- 2:30–3:45. Building three message pillars (promise, mechanism, proof, and boundary for each) and drafting the value proposition live.
- 3:45–5:00. Approving, qualifying, or cutting claims; building the talk track and objection responses; and setting a one-week validation plan.
Evidence beats preference all day. Claims that can’t be shown or proven can’t lead, and the CEO or designated decider makes the call when debate runs long.
Who attends
The decision-makers: typically three to five people who can clear the same day. The CEO is present for the full day. Delegates can observe but cannot stand in for the people who make the decisions.
What you leave with
- One core value proposition, as a sentence and a paragraph
- Three message pillars
- Ideal-customer boundaries, including work to walk away from
- An alternatives map: competitors, substitutes, the status quo, and doing nothing
- A claims register: what to say now, what needs proof, what to soften, and what to cut
- A talk track with responses to the top objections
- A one-week validation plan, with field-testing support afterward
What it does not include: finished website copy, a logo or branding exercise, a marketing retainer, ad management, sales consulting, or broad implementation. You get the message system; your team or agency applies it.
Is the UVP Sprint a fit?
It fits when the offer is strong, three to five real decision-makers can commit to the day, and you are willing to narrow your ideal customer. It does not fit if you want open-ended consulting, can’t provide real inputs, or would send delegates instead of decision-makers. The Fit Check takes minutes and needs no sales call.
